Wooden Wheel Assembly Table

By David Einhorn

This assembly table was constructed to assemble the spokes to the hubs for a traveling forge. The plans for the wheels are specified in Captain Albert Mordecai 1850's measured drawings and specifications, that was used by manufacturers to originally construct them, reproduced within Field Artillery Traveling Forge Book No. 61.

Note that the planks on top of the table shrank after the table top was assembled. This resulted in wide gaps between what were tightly placed boards, demonstrating how much shrinkage occurs even when the boards used were kiln dried.
