This BLACKSMITH WIKI is provided to the blacksmith community by the Blacksmith Guild of Central Maryland. Think of it as a 21st Century FAQ. The purpose here is to provide an interactive place to collect useful PUBLIC DOMAIN information about blacksmithing. The key point is that anyone can add public domain blacksmithing information to existing entries or start new topics. Take a look around. Let us know what you think: wikimaster@bgcmonline.org

Quick Tips

  • MOST IMPORTANT: We see this as a collaborative exercise for the entire blacksmithing community. We hope that many metalsmiths will come here and share the various things they know with their fellow smiths.

  • Would you like to say something, make a contribution to the blacksmith content located here, add a comment to a topic??? If so, please register and log in. Due to Wiki-Spam attacks it is now required to register and be logged in to write to this Wiki. You do not need to either register or log in just to read the topics. In the upper left hand corner of this page, you will see the links for registering and/or logging in.

  • As you explore the BLACKSMITHS' WIKI, you may be wondering: "What's with the wacky capitalization and lack of spaces in some of the words?? Glad you asked: Those words are WIKI-words and allow you to navigate from topic to topic.

  • If the WIKI-words are just underlined and the font is a slightly different color, that means that there is a topic with some information on that page. Click on the WIKI-word to go to that topic.

  • If the WIKI-words have a question mark at the end, ExaMple?, then that means that a topic has been created but there is no information there, yet. Think of it as a place holder, waiting for someone to flesh out that particualr topic.

  • As you make contributions to the WIKI, be aware that if you type a word that starts with a capital letter and has at least one other capital imbedded in the work, the WIKI will think that is a topic name and will treat it as such. If you want to spawn a new topic from your contribution then use that combination of captial and lower case letters to indicate the new topic.

  • COMMENTS: Most topics have a section at the bottom where you can add your thoughts about the topic. Comments are displayed with the newest first and going back to older comments as you scroll down. You do need to register and be logged in to write comments to this wiki.
