Thoughts on Making the Ironwork for a Civil War Period Traveling Forge
By David Einhorn
1) Keep in mind that the Mordecai specifications were based on wrought iron, a much softer substance with less strength than modern mild steel and unpredictable in quality and flaws. Therefor, the amount of metal used was much larger/thicker than would be used today with modern metals.
2) Forging and welding finished metal (chrome) is bad. Heavy metal stays in your body.
