British 1840s Period Forge Wagon

This wagon was the 1840's British complete blacksmith shop on wheels to provide services to both horses and carriages of the British Service during that time period.

The Royal Engineers of the British Service from around 1844 through 1853 compiled a series of papers on the military technology at the time. These papers were published in six volumes between the years of 1846 and 1851 under the title An Aide-Memoire to the Military Sciences, and was overseen by Col. G.G. Lewis, senior editor.

Information about the British 1840s period traveling forge may also be found in the book Civil War Blacksmithing by David Einhorn, a member of the Blacksmith Guild of Central Maryland.
