Step Vise, Upsetting Vise, Calking Vise

The jaws of a step vise close when the smith uses his/her foot to press down a the lever at the foot of the vise. The vise shown below has a number of additional features sometimes found as part of these vises, including an adjustable upsetting block, interchangeable jaws, and an area to create calks on horse shoes. The set of jaws currently on the vise have rounded groves for upsetting the ends of 1/2" and 3/8" round rods, for making the heads on bolts or large rivets.
