The usual solution to holding round stock in your drill press so as to drill through the center is two machinist “V” blocks. However, if you don’t have “V” blocks you can make your own fairly easily from angle iron if you have access to a welder. Weld two pieces of angle together so the “points” of the angle are toward each other, ><. How do you hold them in position to weld? Cut a third shorter piece of angle and clamp it with vicegrips to hold the other pieces in position while you tack weld them together. Once you tack them remove the third piece and bend to adjust the angle so the end is a perfect “X” then complete the weld.
