Grinders and Aluminum

You should NOT grind aluminum on a bench grinder. Use a belt sander. The aluminum is soft and little pieces of aluminum become imbedded in the grinding wheel. Then when next using that grinder, those pieces of aluminum heat up and expand, causing the grinding wheel to catastrophically break. Having a grinding wheel come apart at thousands of rpm’s is not a good thing.
