Forge For The Mountain Howitzer

Also referred to as a "portable forge" by the Ordnance Manual 1863, these are nice lightweight forges that are easy to move around and much less costly for historical events than Civil War Period Traveling Forges. While the traveling forge, according to the Ordnance Manual of 1863, uses a standard 100 pound American pattern anvil, this sheet-metal forge used a stake anvil weighing less than 38.5 pounds. Civil War Mountain Forge Book Num 29 provides drawings that may be used to construct a preproduction of this forge.
