Blacksmith Bellows for Civil War Period Traveling Forges
Shown below is a measured drawing for a bellows designed for use in a
Civil War Period Traveling Forge. The original drawing was drawn around the 1850's by Captain Albert Mordecai. Notes, color and calculations have been added to aid understanding of the drawing.
A blue dotted line shows where the air passes out through the bellows pipe. Leather straps (violet) keep the wooden valves (blue) from opening so far that they have difficulty in closing again.
The next image is a version of the Captain Mordecai's drawing of the top view of the bellows for a traveling forge.
